Vacations are extremely fun, but let’s admit it: we HATE having to save up for months or years and then just spend all those hard-earned money in just a few days. You, of course, wouldn’t want to be buried in debt just to have funds for travelling, don’t you? The bad news is, it’s the harsh reality that we have to face every day – spending is simply inevitable. But hey, the good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune every time you go on a holiday. Here are some of the most helpful tips that you can use when trying to go on a budget holiday:
- Consider getting connecting flights. Yes, it might seem more convenient to get a direct flight, but connecting flights are actually way less expensive. What’s 4-5 hours anyway when you’ve got free wifi at the airport?
- Don’t get your breakfast at the hotel. It might taste good, but it’s probably super expensive, too. Try eating out at local restaurants and you might just discover a new favourite.
- If you’re travelling for a couple of hours, then depart at night. This way, you’ll save money on one night of accommodation and lots of time, too!
- Take buses and trains instead of hailing a cab. Taxis are expensive, especially in some areas of Europe. Consider taking the public transportation – you’re here to explore anyway!
- Look for accommodations in nearby smaller towns. Motels and hostels are way less costly than hotels in the city proper or business district, so turn to Google and look for the nearest hostel nearby.
- Walk instead of taking the bus or train. If you don’t mind walking for a little bit, then go ahead and just walk to your chosen destination. It’s much cheaper, plus you get to see the area in a much better view!
- Support local. The least you can do when visiting a certain country is to patronize their own products. This is the point of travelling anyway – to discover, explore, and get out of your comfort zone. You’ll be surprised at how cheaper they actually are compared to the stuff that you’re used to!
- Visit during off season. Yes, there might be a little rain or snow here and there when you’re expecting the sun to come out, but it shouldn’t be that bad. Off-peak prices are much lower than peak season prices, all you have to do is check the weather before travelling so you’ll know how to deal with it.
- Chat with the locals. Be friendly and get familiar with the culture! Not only do you learn more about their heritage, but you also get to ask them about cheap alternatives to restaurants, accommodation, and the likes.
- Eat heavier meals during lunchtime. Lunch buffets and meals are usually cheaper than dinner, so it’s wiser to eat heavier during lunch time. Plus, it’s healthier, too!
