Discount Programs: Way of Saving Money in College

College tuition have skyrocketed in recent years exceeding $40,000 per year. But they are far from being the only cost of an average college student even if he/ she lives a minimalist lifestyle. Buying textbooks, clothes and food, paying cell phone bills, traveling, having fun or getting assignment help if a student is overwhelmed by the workload. And this is just a portion of the costs.

The good news is they can be reduced if one uses student discounts. But a lot of students are not proactive enough and remain unaware of this great way to reduce their costs. So here are some of them:

Amazon Prime

Students with a valid . edu email address can benefit from this program and get their textbooks ( and a lot more) at a reasonable price. When you sign up, you will receive free two-day shipping on their eligible purchases as well as a number of other deals and discounts including unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows. After 6 months you can upgrade to a paid subscription with a 50% discount.

Insurance Discounts

Allstate offers a good student discount ( up to 20% )  to single full- time students younger than 25.  State Farm offers the same discount ( even after you have graduated college ). Geico offers a 15 % discount to full- time students aged between 16 and 24 with at least a “ B“ average

Food Discounts

A lot of restaurants give discounts to students with a valid ID card. Subway gives you a 10 % discount, Waffle House does the same, as well as Papa John’ s Pizza and McDonald’s. Of course, this list is not exhaustive, as just about every restaurant offers these discounts, so the best thing to do is to bring your student ID card with you and ask.

Movie discounts

College is not all about studying, you need to have some fun too. Regal Theaters, AMC Theaters ( only on Thursday ), Cinemark…they all offer a student discount.

Travel Discounts

If you decide to travel with Amtrak and you are aged between 13 and 25 you are eligible for their 15% discount on all tickets. CoachUsa offers a 15% discount for students at certain colleges ( check their list).

Cell Phone Discounts

Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile- they all offer discounts. To check if you are eligible fill out their form.
