Sure, inspirational quotes do work but definitely should not to be taken out of context for a money advice! If you’re someone who’s meaning to read all sorts of things online- chances are you’ve seen some quasi harmless quotes being related to, wait what a money advice? Although, in general it only means well aka “to make you feel inspired”, it poses some danger without you even knowing. Here are some (non) inspirational quote finds that you might not want to follow if you don’t want to be that young, dumb and broke millennial.
“Spending Money On Experiences As Opposed To Material Possessions, Leads To Greater Happiness”
If this quote doesn’t make you want to save money and travel full on, then I don’t know what! This glamorizes someone’s mentality that experiences such as travelling or even weddings are rare occasions worth overspending. When quite frankly, it’s better to balance spending on some experiences and spending on some things but more importantly stop over spending! I’m sure people will be happier in general when they do things for experiences rather than for the benefit of material gain -which doesn’t go with the context of “spending money”.
“See The World While Your Young And Beautiful”
Apparently the “young and beautiful” which appeals to this demographic are ironically young professionals still finding their financial stability. Don’t make travelling such a priority if that means you have to drain your savings account or skip meals. Heck, who doesn’t want to travel, but don’t go too far to justify unaffordable lifestyle. There are more opportunities for a next trip especially if you’ll only prepare for it! Travelling may not be always expensive, but travel the world one at a time.
“Live Your Life As If It’s Your Last”
Financially, as much as you want to invest in yourself now, you have to also invest in your future self. Contextualize your life in grand scheme so that you’ll make good financial decisions, what’s important is to establish a long-term comfort for yourself and not just for your young life! It’s easy when you’re young to ignore investments, health care or retirement plans- it’s probably absurd for millennials to even think of it. But, remember to keep in mind that in the future you will need that money and now is the only time you have to start.
“You Live Only Once”
If you live by this mentality and can simply blow a wad of cash recklessly – without the feeling of guilt, you probably have some serious spending problem you have to address! What’s alarming is that most millennials today live their life only to get by everyday which financially means that they do overspend on what they could barely afford. To cut spending urge to buy this or that of things you only use once or twice, it’s better to make purchases of the things you only need and constricting yourself on a budgeted spending.
