Investing in Paint: Raise Your Home Price

Did you know painting your house can add to the overall cost of your home?

If you’re someone who’s thinking of selling their home or in the process of selling their home one word of advice: paint.

Yes that’s right, paint. You may think why waste money on painting your home when you’re thinking of selling it. Well the reason is simple, a splash of paint on the interior and exterior of your home can work wonders when it comes to the actual selling of your home.

Most people, however, tend not to want to invest in painting their homes, mainly because it’s a messy job and with the cost of living being high as it is, why increase expenditure on something such as paint.

Paint, not only makes your home look like new, but it breathes new life into it as well.

A few years ago my uncle was in the process of selling his home, but he was selling his home as is, as his job was keeping him a bit busy to conduct any repairs. However, every potential buyer that stepped into his home said the same thing, it’s a nice location, it’s a good price and house itself was in good shape, but something about it, didn’t have that ‘homely’ feeling to it; my uncle felt dejected.

However, one day he and my dad were having a conversation and my dad suggested why didn’t he take some time off work and have the house painted, both inside and outside. My uncle said, it was going to be too much work and he didn’t know if he would even get back the amount he invested and dismissed the idea, but after much persistence by my dad, my uncle decided to have his house painted.

Yes it turned out to be a messy job, but when it was completed it looked like a totally different house. Even my uncle was surprised at the outcome. He re-advertised his home for sale and the responses he received were overwhelming. People were making offers to him right there on the spot to buy his home. Needless to say, the paint did the job. Not only did my uncle receive what he was asking for, but he received more than the asking price for his home.

When we think of painting or doing any sort of renovation we immediately think: WORK! It doesn’t have to be the case. Think of those things as investments; investments which will bring high returns. If my uncle didn’t pay heed to the advice of my dad, he might’ve had to sell his home for a much lower price or it could’ve still been on the market.

Another piece of advice, whenever painting your home, always use warm colours, as warm colours have a more inviting look and feel to a home, especially if you’re thinking of selling your home.

Remember what may seem like work to you, can reap the biggest of rewards in the end.
